Jakarta, Hilton News –
The number two presidential candidate, Prabowo Subianto, affirmed his commitment to protecting Indonesian women through firm law enforcement and concrete action. This was conveyed in the last presidential debate held by the General Elections Commission (KPU) for the 2024 Presidential Election at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Sunday (4/2) night.
“You have to enforce the law as hard as possible and that’s axiomatic. Without us thinking, we must protect all our people, especially women,” she said in a written statement, Monday (5/1).
Furthermore, she mentioned that women are often the object of oppression, exploitation, human trafficking and so on. Therefore, he will really encourage the strongest possible law enforcement.
Not only that, she also together with Gibran Rakabuming Raka is also committed in terms of law enforcement to overcome violence against women by providing assistance to government institutions or non-government institutions.
“So I strongly encourage the strongest possible law and assistance to non-governmental organizations, NGOs engaged in the protection of women. I myself am active in saving women working abroad from such acts of violence,” she said.
Prabowo himself had helped one of the migrant workers in Malaysia, Wilfrida Soik, in 2015. At that time, he claimed to be given information about this case from an activist who then followed up to help rescue efforts.
“I once had an experience, told by a female activist about a female worker in Malaysia who was two weeks away from being hanged. If there is no news from these activists, we will not be able to help and intervene,” he explained.
Prabowo’s efforts ultimately paid off. Wilfrida was successfully released from the death penalty and repatriated to Indonesia.
