Police Will Call Ministry of Transportation Employees to Investigate Case of Swearing to Step on the Quran

Jakarta, Hilton News

Police will summon the former Head of the Merauke Regional X Airport Authority Office of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Asep Kosasih as reported regarding his act of swearing while stepping on the Koran.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi said his party would also ask for information from a number of parties to explore the alleged blasphemy.

“Investigators will coordinate with the MUI, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, linguists, criminal experts and clarification of the reported person (Asep),” Ade Ary told reporters on Tuesday (21/5).

However, Ade Ary has not revealed when the summons and clarification of Asep will be carried out. He only said that so far investigators have asked for information from at least three witnesses.

“Clarifications have been made to three witnesses, one complainant, two witnesses,” he said.

Previously, Asep Kosasih went viral by swearing on the Qur’an to convince his wife that he was not having an affair with another woman. In the video circulating, the oath was given when he was being interrogated by a woman.

Asep was then reported to the Metro Jaya Regional Police regarding allegations of blasphemy. The report is registered under the number LP/B/2642/V/2024/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA.

“Reporting an allegation of an official at the Ministry of Transportation who we suspect committed blasphemy by the way the official vowed to convince his wife that he did not cheat by stepping on the Qur’an,” said the complainant’s lawyer, Sunan Kalijaga at the Jakarta Metro Regional Police, Friday (5/17).

Sunan explained that the incident began when Asep’s wife suspected her husband had cheated on her. Sunan claimed the wife also had evidence of her husband’s infidelity.

Then the wife asked Asep about the truth of the matter. At that time, then Asep tried to convince his wife by swearing an oath with the Qur’an.

“Well, when he delivered that and at the initiative of the father, the wife ‘oh yes, it’s right if you dare to swear by the Qur’an’,” said Sunan.

“However, the wife also documented the process of the oath documented and with the knowledge of the husband yes and she performed the oath in a way that we think is wrong, she stepped on the Qur’an,” he added.

On the other hand, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) temporarily suspended Asep from his position.

Secretary of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Cecep Kurniawan said the decision was made to facilitate further investigation of the case.

“We deeply regret the domestic violence case involving the Head of the Regional X Airport Authority Asep Kosasih. Currently, the person concerned has been relieved of his duties to facilitate further investigation,” he said in an official statement, Thursday (16/6).
